Life beyond the screen and Salesforce
Managing attention and mental well-being is crucial for Salesforce professionals who spend long hours in front of screens. Excessive social media use can overwhelm and distract us, reducing our productivity and internal motivation. Cultivating mindfulness about media consumption outside of Salesforce work helps maintain focus and personal happiness. Emphasizing the importance of internal validation can lead to improved work-life balance and clearer thinking.
- Limit social media use to reduce distractions and mental overload.
- Be intentional about the type of media consumed outside of work.
- Focus on internal happiness rather than external validation.
- Maintain a healthy work-life balance by unplugging from screens.
- Remember mindfulness supports sharper attention and better productivity.
Last week, Spain became the first European country to ban social media for kids under 16 years old. Australia banned it last December. I mention this because it’s interesting to see how badly social media impacts us. It distracts us, it reduces our attention span, and it creates too much noise between the ears, As humans, we were not evolved to handle such a large amount of information and feedback. It can overwhelm us. Additionally, it encourages us to seek validation and happiness externally. “The key to happiness lies within”, is one of my favorite quotes from an old cartoon. I discovered this for myself years ago, and it’s helpful to keep reminding myself. The takeaway When you’re not working in Salesforce, be intentional and selective on what media you consume. We all know the expression, “you are what you eat”.
