Chatter on Reports and Dashboards

By Jen Lee· www.freelikeapuppy.tech· ·Intermediate ·Admin ·4 min read
Summary

Chatter can be enabled for reports and dashboards in Salesforce to facilitate in-context collaboration directly on these objects. This simple configuration enables feed tracking for Reports and Dashboards, adding a conversation icon to post updates or ask questions tied to specific reports or dashboards. It helps eliminate back-and-forth confusion about records by providing clear, contextual conversations and notifications, improving team communication. However, admins should ensure email notifications are properly configured post Winter '24 release to avoid missed updates. The article also notes the uncertain future of Chatter as Slack integration grows.

Takeaways
  • Enable Feed Tracking on Dashboard and Reports objects to activate Chatter.
  • Use the conversation icon on reports and dashboards to collaborate in context.
  • Adjust Global Publisher layout to allow posting in the Chatter pane.
  • Ensure email notifications for Chatter posts are configured after Winter '24 release.
  • Leverage Chatter to reduce confusion about which record is being discussed.

I bet a lot of you didnt know that you could turn on Chatter for reports and dashboards. This is one of my favorite quick little tips. You can enable it with just a couple of clicks and then you instantly gain the ability to collaborate right in context about reports ("Does this have all the columns you need?") or dashboards ("Take a look at the Dashboard of Zeros, we have some data that needs cleanup!"). Shall I give you the step-by-step instructions? Step One: Enable Feed Tracking Go to Setup>Chatter>Feed Tracking and then select the Dashboard object. Click the Enable Feed Tracking checkbox and then Save. (Repeat for the Reports object.) Thats it. There was just one step. Using Chatter on Reports and Dashboards Now that youve enabled it, simply go to a report or a dashboard1 you may need to refresh your page1 and youll have a button that isnt there before: a "conversation" icon. (Its subtle, but those are two speech balloons.
